Year 11 Notices
There has been a busy hive of activity as our Year 11 students have got to use to the extra demands of their Year 11 General or ATAR pathway. We have had a number of subject swaps in the last couple of weeks as students have started their subject and realised it is not one they wish to pursue. As you are aware, we will track our Year 11 students after their first assessments in the next couple of weeks and meet with students and families where we believe that a subject change, pathway change or extra support is needed. I encourage you to book times at the Year 11 Parent/Teacher interviews (occurring on the 11th March) to discuss your child’s progress. Please note that those staff who are Year 7 Pastoral Care Tutors will not be available on this day due to their attendance at the Year 7 Camp. These teachers will be in contact with you on the Friday prior (via Seqta) if your child is at risk in their subject.
I have had a number of students speak to me about dropping to 4 ATAR subjects. This is not something we recommend at Year 11 level. It is important that if students wish to pursue an ATAR pathway that they have “back up” with their 5th subject. When students ‘drop’ to 4 ATAR they do not have this “back up” and it may mean that they cannot follow an ATAR pathway in Year 12. Students in Year 12 usually study 5 ATAR and have a study line.
We have been busy working on our Year 12 schedule and dates for next year. Whilst it may seem like a long way away (and I can hear you saying “They have just started Year 11”) it goes very quickly. We like to get our dates organised so that you can plan your holidays accordingly. Year 12 is a year of many ‘lasts’ and special ‘rites of passage’ moments in your child’s life.
End of Year 11
ATAR Exam Feedback sessions
At the end of the year our Year 11 ATAR students have feedback sessions on their exams. These will be held on Wednesday, 13th November and it is important that every ATAR student attends for their subject feedback sessions. This feedback allows students to see their strengths and get an understanding of the work they need to do to ‘fill their knowledge gaps’ so that they can confidently study the subject in Year 12. It is also a time where students may change their minds about Year 12 subjects or pathways.
Year 11 to 12 Day – Head Start
We have a ‘Head Start’ Day where our Year 11 students follow their Year 12 timetable, meeting their Year 12 teacher and getting their subject outline and an understanding of the subject’s requirements and assessments. This will be held on Thursday, 14th November. Students are able to begin some of their reading over the holiday break.
Year 11 Community Day
Friday, 15th November will be our last day for the year as a Year 11 cohort. We will be celebrating communion together at Chapel and then heading to Adventure World. This is a celebratory day where we enjoy being together as a community and reflecting on the past year whilst looking forward to the year ahead.
2025 Year 12
We will send lots of information in Term 3 but I wanted to give you the following dates so that if you are making any holiday preparations for the end of this year or beginning of next year, you are aware of important dates so that you can make plans around them.
Year 12 Retreat
We begin the Year with a Year 12 Retreat and it is an expectation that all students attend. The retreat has a mix of wellbeing and learning activities as students set their goals for the year ahead. This year Greg Hire from A Stich in Time spoke with students about achieving goals, overcoming negative self-talk whilst establishing strong support networks and the importance of resilience. Students worked on their study schedules and set goals to commence the year with this on their mind. We are looking to book in a similar presenter as we had such wonderful feedback. Our Year 12 students will be commencing before the rest of the school, back on Wednesday 29th January for a full day.
We also ask our parents to write a letter to their child which your child will read on the day – this is a very special moment for them as they read about your dreams and goals for their future and how proud of them you are. We will give you lots of notice about this so that you have it done in time.
Year 12 Information Evening
We will be running our Year 12 Parent Teacher evening on the Wednesday 29th
January. The format of this evening is a little different to the Information evenings you have attended in the past. On the evening you follow your child’s timetable, meeting their subject teachers and hearing about the course requirements, assessments and importantly how you can support them at home.
Year 12 Ball
This year our Ball is on Thursday 30th January and will be at The Pavillion in Mindarie. The ball starts at 6:30pm and finishes at approximately at 11:00pm.
