Year 7 Study and Revision Skills
In the past few weeks in PCG, Year 7 students have been reviewing their organisation and time management skills used this year by reviewing their current priorities outside of school and creating time planning charts that schedule their daily commitments for extracurricular activities, wellbeing and family time as well as for homework and revision. As a Year 7 team, we know that this is a developmental skill and with continued practise our students will become more proficient in organising and prioritising their commitments to lead a well-balanced life. The process of prioritising commitments and scheduling their time is not new for students as they have been introduced to this in Year 6 and with Elevate Education sessions offered this year. However, it is time for a review.
As written in my communication to parents at the start of this term, students are required to:
- Schedule a 60-minute timeslot in their day to attend to subject requirements,
- 10-minute allocation per MESH subjects (Maths, English, Science and Humanities)
- Extra time given for revision, working on projects and or for specialist subjects.
- This can be broken down to 30-minute time slots depending on their day and homework/revision priorities do vary each day.
- Students should be aiming for at least 4 homework/revision sessions per week and perhaps to schedule another time on the weekend for catch-up.
All students are trialling their 2024 time planners for the next week and on behalf of the Pastoral Care Tutors, we are expecting that students have shared this with you. We will be asking that they bring their time planning charts into PCG next week (Week 8) to make any changes and after this, that they stick to it for at least 4 weeks until our next review next term.
In the meantime, we thank you for your support of checking and signing School Diaries each week and taking note of assessments and homework requirements for the week. This is the most accurate portal for recorded assessments and homework. Please contact your child’s Pastoral Care Tutor if you have concerns with their use of the Diary or with their time planning chart.
