A message from the Head of Primary School
Dear Parents and Carers
What a sprint to the finish we’ve had! This week, we farewell our Year 5 students with a heartfelt graduation service and a memorable river cruise. On Friday, we are excited for our final event of the year - the Junior School End of Year Assembly. This special occasion celebrates individual achievements and serves as a wonderful conclusion to the school year.
This year, my address will focus on the tremendous progress our students have made in mathematics and reading. I am incredibly proud of their efforts in 2024. Our students have continued to grow into avid readers, thanks to the commitment of our teachers and the strong partnership we have with parents. Reading is a cornerstone of educational success, and I deeply appreciate the role families play in prioritising this at home. I would really like this reading commitment to continue into the holidays.
A special thanks to Mrs Fransz and Mrs Lindsay, who will once again open the Primary Library during the Christmas holidays. These sessions allow students to exchange books and continue their reading journeys. Please refer to the article below to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.
This year we bid farewell to Mrs Denham, Mrs Raymond, Mrs Debbie Birsa and Mr Hummerston. Retirement and/or new adventures await in 2025 and I wish them all the best for the next journey in their lives and thank them for their service to our school community.
Looking ahead to 2025, Year 5 students will participate in our Term 1 bicycle education program - a mix of fun and fitness! If your child is entering Year 5, the summer holidays are a great time to refresh their cycling skills. This preparation will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable start to the program. Additionally, Term 1 will feature In-term swimming lessons, which will build on any holiday swimming experiences your children may enjoy. I expect the warmer weather will be welcomed by the students too. Please note that Year 5 surfing lessons will stay in their regular place in Term 4.
The holiday season is a time for relaxation and creating precious family memories. In the long run, children may not remember the gifts they receive, but they will cherish the moments spent with loved ones. In my own family, we often laugh about lessons I give my children about 'real' music during our holiday drives - it’s these small moments that stay with us.
I wish all our families a safe, joyful, and adventure-filled holiday season. I can’t wait to hear about the stories and escapades - perhaps with some creative embellishments - when the students return in the new year. Finally, for those who are looking to attend a Christmas service with their family, please read the message from our School Chaplain, Reverend Mark Davis, below.
