A message from the Head of Primary School
With only a week and a half before the end of the term, I have been very impressed with our students and the positive attitude they have shown towards their school and their learning. Each week there are a number of events and activities in the Primary School and the students have thrived in the ebbs and flows of the school term. During the term there are some incredibly busy times that require large amounts of organisation and planning, as well as moments of a more relaxed pace. Our students grow from these experiences and are developing the skills that will help them as they get older.
Last week, I was very proud of our Basketball teams who competed against other schools in the School Slam Series. I know they demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship, and one of our teams also emerged victorious in the tournament. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the parents who trained, coached and supported the students - your involvement was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
I also had the pleasure last week to watch two of our of our Year 5 stars, Claudia and Archie, who represented our school with great distinction at the IPSHA Speakers' Challenge. Competing against some of the best young speakers in the region, they showcased impressive oratory skills and confidence. Their speeches were brilliant and I know how much work went into writing and practising their scripts for the event. Public speaking, as highlighted by this and our recent Verse-atality Competition, is really beginning to shine in the Primary school at St Mark’s.
Our music program has also been in the spotlight with a number of opportunities for the students. Our Sforzando Strings made everyone proud when competing in the Junor Aboda Band and Orchestra Festival at Churchlands Senior High School last Saturday. Well done to these students for their efforts. In a spectacular performance, all of the St Mark's choirs sang beautifully at our Combined Choirs event held at Peter Moyes last Wednesday night. It was wonderful to see the students perform on stage and to such a big audience. Talented indeed!
Finally, a thank you to all of the staff and parents who have assisted to make these opportunities possible. Your commitment to our students is greatly appreciated.
