Junior School Bulletin - Term 2, Week 8

It was wonderful to speak to children this morning and see how much they enjoyed the family time they shared over the weekend. From camping and trips away, to the movies and other indoor activities, the extra day was clearly well received and enjoyed.

This Friday is our first disco in some time, and I know many students are looking forward to it and the 'space' theme. These events are always well received, and I thank you in advance for reminding children about behaviour expectations for the afternoon/evening. I am certain it will be very loud and a great time will be had by all!

Mr da Costa is putting together a Chapel music video that will be publicly uploaded to YouTube. Primary students will have the opportunity to dance and perform the actions in the production of this song, titled ‘Path Laid Out’ (viewable here). If your child would like to be involved and you consent for their involvement (see link to consent form below), they will need to arrive at school on Thursday 6 June at 7.45am in the 4/5 open area. Students must wear free dress or some ‘adventurer’ themed clothing (optional) and/or props to help fit with the theme of the song. Students may choose to wear some free dress items such as a jacket over their normal school uniform if that is easier.

ELC Parents: If your child would like to be involved, you must stay for the duration of the filming, remain while they get changed back into school uniform in the Yr 2/3 toilets and escort them back to the ELC.

UNIFORM: Free dress and/or ‘adventurer’ themed clothing. Students can also bring ‘adventurer’ themed props as well (hats, sunnies, jackets, hiking equipment, binoculars, maps etc.). Students must bring their normal school uniform to change back into at the conclusion of this activity at 8.15am.

This term we will be collecting items to donate to the Joondalup Grace Anglican Church as part of their outreach program. To help us with this task we are asking for donations of the following items from the ELC and Primary School community:

• ELC: Cup two-minute noodles only
• YEAR 2: Ring pull tin meals: Heinz big eats or harvest meals
• YEAR 3: Ring pull tins of tuna or salmon or sardines
• YEAR 4: Ring pull chunky tin soups
• YEAR 5: Small and large UHL milk

Collection boxes will be in the ELC, Year 2/3 block and Year 4/5 block for you to place your donations in. Please may we ask that every family contributes to this valuable cause. Our Primary School Global Citizenship motto is ‘Be the change you want to see happen’. We ask you please help us to achieve this! Thank you.

  Disco tickets can be purchased here (this link will close on Wednesday 5 June at 4pm). Please note, door sales are unavailable on the night. Further Disco information can be obtained from the previous Junior School Bulletins (Weeks 4 & 5).
  
  
• Y5 Winter Sport Lightning Carnival – Monday 10 June (Week 9)
  Notifications will be sent to Y5 parents via Consent2Go in due course.

• Interschool Cross Country – Friday 21 June (Week 10)
  Notifications will be sent to parents of selected students via Consent2Go in due course.
  
  
• Term Dates
  The last day of Term 2 is Friday 21 June (normal finish time) for a three week break. The first day of Term 3 is Tuesday 16 July and students are to wear winter uniform. Further information regarding Term dates can be found here.

Parents are encouraged to complete the Uniform Shop Survey to assist us in gaining insights into your experiences and expectations regarding the St Mark's Uniform Shop.

St Marks has been provided with the new Australia Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sports. The safety and well-being of our students is paramount, and these guidelines aim to ensure prompt and appropriate action in the event of a concussion.

The mantra for these guidelines is simple: “If in doubt, sit them out”. This means that if there is any suspicion of concussion during school activities and after school activities, it is imperative to remove the student from play and seek appropriate medical attention.

Furthermore, we kindly request that parents notify our school nurse if a child has a sustained concussion outside of school hours. Please find attached the link to the guidelines for review and understanding.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the safety of our students.

We have received an increase in concerns raised over our School community's use of St Marks Drive during drop-off and pick-up times and not adhering to the traffic and road rules. For the safety of our students, please remember:

• St Marks Drive is a 40km/h School Zone between 7.30am - 9.00am and 2.30pm - 4.00pm.
  
  
• Please drive with caution and care.
  
  
• Please do not double park at any location, including (but not limited to): Kiss ‘n Drive points, St Marks Drive, School parking lots, access gates and across our neighbours’ driveways.
  
  
• Remember, during drop-off and pick-up times, the traffic in and around the School can get very heavy, and some behaviours put our students - your children - at risk. In particular, please be aware of double parking, overtaking and exiting the School, as these can limit driver and pedestrian fields of vision, and can cause accidents.
  
  
• Please do not overtake stationary cars on the School grounds, especially in Kiss ‘n Drive zones.
  
  
• When exiting the School grounds, please ensure you look both left and right carefully before re-entering St Marks Dr, particularly around our neighbour’s driveways.
  
  
• Please DO NOT park in our neighbourly businesses' carparks, including the Endeavour Centre, Mitre 10, Better Pets, AutoMasters, SuperCheap, and Whitford Family Centre. Should you require additional parking, Whitford Shopping Centre has kindly allowed us to use the bays next to Muzz Buzz.

Calling all Dad’s at St Mark’s! The POSTMEN are putting on our first ever “Dad’s Only” event to create an opportunity to build on the network of amazing Dads and Father Figures at the school. We’ll have a short discussion about the POSTMEN and rip into a comedy set featuring local comedians Tori Griffiths, David Tuffley and Jon Pinder!

Did you know that our Old Scholars' Association Little Lions Playgroup is run on-site every Friday during term time? We'd love to see your little cub there this Friday!

Join us from 8.45 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. for lots of fun and games. Little Lions Playgroup is a community-based group run in conjunction with Playgroup WA and caters for children up to school age. Families attending our Kindy and not in session on Fridays are more than welcome to join as well.
