Campus and Facilities

The Barbara Godwin Performing Arts Complex opened in 1993, and was named for the School's Foundation Principal (1986-2002) Mrs Barbara Godwin OAM. The facility underwent a significant upgrade in 2012. The foyer, stage and backstage were refurbished to expand it to a 245 seat airconditioned theatre. The intimate theatre provides a perfect setting for School events and an opportunity to showcase the talents of our students in drama, dance and music.

The Chapel opened in 1999, the culmination of many years of anticipation and careful planning to ensure that is a place of beauty and peace. It stands on a high point of School land, and the cross, positioned at the apex of the roof, is a visible and constant reminder of the centrality of Christianity in the life and work of St Mark's.

In 2012, the School Council announced that it had named the School Hall, which opened in 1990, in recognition of the School's Foundation Bursar, Mr Ken Fairfield, who helped lay the foundations of the strong financial position the School is in today.

The Len King Sports Pavilion opened in 2006. The spacious sporting facilities are complemented by a dance studio, a general purpose classroom and the adventure and challenge facilities such as the climbing wall, high ropes course and abseiling tower. These last facilities form part of the School's Outdoor Education program. The Pavilion is also used for whole-school gatherings and special events, including St Mark's Day celebrations, Speech Night and the Year 12 Valedictory. The building was named after Dr Len King, who served the St Mark's with distinction on the School Council from 1994 to 2002.

The new two-storey Library and Information Centre opened in September 2013. It provides a valuable resource for both students and teachers. It will add to the School’s already excellent facilities, enabling the School to continue its growth and offer the best for our students from Kindergarten to Year 12. In honour of Past Principal (2002-2012) Mr Anthony Stopher's commitment to the project and in recognition of 25 dedicated years of service to the School, the Council named the Library complex "The Tony Stopher Library and Information Centre."

The Early Learning Centre is a self-contained facility with its own classrooms, play spaces and amenities. The play areas include sand and water play, a sensory garden, grassed open space, climbing frames, nature play areas and imaginative play spaces, as well as their own edible garden. The Early Learning Centre caters specifically for students in Kindergarten, Pre-Primary and Year 1.

Students from Year 2 to Year 5 are based in Primary School Precinct of the main campus. The Precinct was rebuilt in 2010, and additional facilities opened in 2017 to cater for increased enrolments. The two larger buildings have six classrooms in each, all connecting to a generous open space. The open space is very flexible, and is used in a variety of ways, from working in small groups, to gathering Primary School students together for meetings and activities.

The Learning Enrichment Centre provides space for small groups to gather for focused learning support or learning extension. The students in the enrichment programs will still spend the majority of the school day with their regular class groups.

The Primary School students have access to specialist facilities for Art and Physical Education/Sport, including a sports oval. Students also make use of the School’s shared amenities, such as the Barbara Godwin Performing Arts Complex, the Ken Fairfield Hall and the Len King Sports Pavilion. The oval and multipurpose courts near the Pavilion are also used by the Primary School when required.

Students are encouraged to keep active during the day. There is a nature play zone, climbing frames, a multipurpose sports court, as well as spaces for outdoor social games such as Four Square, handball and chess. Items such as balls, hula hoops and skipping ropes are available to children during recess and lunch. In 2020, a new adventure playground was built on the Primary School Oval.

The Community Garden was established in 2015 with great success, supporting the Primary School’s focus on sustainability.

Students in early adolescence like to be part of a big picture, but like to feel safe, insulated and have a sense of belonging. The Middle School precinct is the perfect place for them to thrive. The Middle School precinct includes the Floreat Building and the Cottesloe Building and is home to students from Years 6 to 8.

Play equipment outside Floreat caters for the physical needs of Middle Schoolers, especially Year 6 students. It is designed to encourage upper body strength, while ‘nests’ in the structure provide place for social interaction. The ever popular outdoor chess and ping pong tables will remain, with additional tables added to the Year 7 and 8 zones.

The Year 7 and 8 zone incorporates a number of large-scale games, such as outdoor Connect Four. New seating and shaded areas provide plenty of opportunity for social interaction, while also providing place to play.

Students have access to the Secondary Oval and the Hall/Pavilion for sports during recess and lunch.

The purpose-built facility is the focus of Senior School life. The Alan Cadby Senior Academic Centre, which opened in 2018, was, to date, the most significant capital project in St Mark’s 30+ year history. It has quickly become a hub for creativity, communication and academic development for Senior School students.

The three story Senior Academic Centre replaced some of St Mark’s oldest facilities. The modern, spacious interior design allows for flexible, glass enclosed learning areas, which gives teaching staff the ability to easily adapt the space to suit a variety of learning styles. Incorporation of modern student furniture allows for a variety of collaboration possibilities.

In addition to the 22 learning spaces, the building features two Home Economics facilities, a staff room (which will be converted to additional class room spaces at a later stage), a new Cafeteria, a presentation space with flexible seating for up to 200, prep rooms and offices.

A bridge connects the Senior Academic Centre with the upper floor of the Library, providing a direct link to the Secondary School Library resources.

The Anglican Schools Commission (Inc.) maintains a Building Fund to which parents are encouraged to donate. The ASC will pass on 100% of the funds specifically donated for St Mark’s to maintain and extend the School's facilities in the future. The Fund is approved by the Australian Taxation Office, and therefore all donations over $2 are eligible tax deductions.
