Congratulations to Year 6 student Noah, who has qualified and been selected as part of the 2022 Gymnastics WA State Team. He will be representing Western Australia in the Level 5 Under 13 Male Tumbling Competition. What a fabulous achievement!
Noah will be competing at the WA Gymnastics Championships in Perth on Saturday, 30 April and then travelling to the Gold Coast in May for the Australian Gymnastics Championships.

This week, our Year 5 and Year 6 teams met teams from Hong Kong, New Zealand and across Australia online as part of their training for the Junior International Ethics Olympiad in June.
They spent the morning looking at cases studies and developing their ethical understanding and critical thinking skills.
Our students were very fortunate to have this opportunity to stretch their thinking and to engage with ‘real’ philosophers from the US and UK.
The Year 5 and Year 6 International Junior Ethics Olympiad is part of our school enrichment program.
During Flourish lessons this week, students in Years 6-7 and Years 10-12 have worked on Anzac Day reflection activities. The Year 6 and 7 classes created artworks for display and Years 10-12 coloured silhouettes.
The Cafeteria windows and those in the Cottesloe and Floreat buildings have been adorned with the artwork and we are sure you will agree that our students have created a beautiful reflective space to commemorate Anzac Day.
This term our Year 9 Art students have been tie-dying and block printing large cotton cushion covers. Seen here are a number of students sewing the final touches onto their cushion covers. Students will be taking these home this term to fill with a pillow to create a comfortable cushion for themselves to relax on these holidays.

Photo Orders:
● Orders placed ONLINE will receive the packages as viewed on the website – please note these packages contain slightly different products to the ones shown on the Order Form which is being distributed this week. Packages online NOW INCLUDE Group Class Photos.
● Photos can be ordered online at www.3p.net.au using the Shoot Key: DJ7L83P
● Orders placed with a cash payment in the Order Form provided, will receive the packages as viewed on the Order Form (i.e. no Group Photos)
● Orders will be delivered to the School and distributed to students

We would like to thank the Primary School community for their outstanding support of our food donation drive for the Grace Café- Drop Centre, which is part of the Grace Anglican Church in Joondalup.
The 2022 Global Citizenship Council packed up 35 bags of donations that were dropped at the centre by parent volunteers.
The GC Council will be working with the Grace Café - Drop Centre later in the year as part of an ongoing initiative with the Grace Anglican Church.
For the last week of term, our Busselton space has been the home to powerful images, each two metres high, depicting the faces and stories of 20 homeless West Australians. The exhibition titled ‘Eye Contact’ by photographer Phil England encouraged viewers to recognise the humanity in homeless people with the aim of changing attitudes in our community and to help consider how we can help less fortunate people.
As a Rotary Clubs of Perth and Heirisson initiative, this exhibition has enabled our St Mark's community to visit, read and reflect on the confronting stories of homelessness.
Ensembles in Term 2
Under the updated Term Two Music operational guidelines as set by the Department of Education, we are excited to confirm that all Primary and Secondary ensembles will be running in Term 2.
Choirs and orchestras can now rehearse indoors in mixed groups, with a maximum group size of 32. Students who are asymptomatic, non-household close contacts may attend rehearsals as long as they do not remove their masks to sing or play.
The ensemble rehearsal schedule outlines the days, times and venue for each ensemble in Term 2. Ensemble directors will be in touch before the beginning of Term 2 to confirm the starting date and other details of rehearsals.
New Arts Administrator
The Arts Department welcomes Jaina van Reyk, who commences as our new Arts Administrator on Tuesday, 26 April. Jaina comes to us from Oxley College in NSW, where she was the Performing Arts Administrator for the last two years. Prior to that, Jaina worked in administration, event management and payroll support for places like the WACA and Domain Stadium, so she brings a wealth of relevant experience to this role. Jaina is looking forward to working with our students, staff and parents and can be reached at artsadmin@stmarks.wa.edu.au.
Woodwind recall
A reminder to all flute, clarinet, oboe and saxophone players who are hiring instruments from the school that you need to hand in your instrument by the end of this week, to be serviced over the holidays. Please give your instrument to your tutor at the conclusion of this week’s lesson, or drop it off to the Music Office.
Take instruments home
Please ensure all other musical instruments are taken home over the holidays so that students can practice. Instruments must not be left in the storeroom over the break.
We are excited to share that Old Scholar and Class of 2015 member, Amber Reid, is a contestant in this coming season of The Voice Australia. The series starts on Monday 18 April on Channel 7.
Amber has a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) from WAAPA. During her time at St Mark's, she was a dedicated performer in our theatrical productions and music ensembles, including attending the USA Music Tour.

The Anglican Schools Commission International is looking for caring families to host regional, interstate and international students intending to study at St Mark’s Anglican Community School.
A home stay provides a student with the opportunity to live in a home setting, taking away some of the stresses of living away from family. It also gives them insight into Australian culture and the chance to further build their English language skills. In return, your family with have the opportunity to learn more about your guest's home country and expand your own global horizons. Many lifelong friendships are built through home stays, and it can be very rewarding both the host family and the student. Hosts are also paid a weekly fee.
With the WA borders reopening this week, many students are looking to travel to Perth and the majority of these will need home stay families. If you would like to find out more about hosting a regional, interstate or international student, please contact the ASCI's Accommodation Coordinator at homestay@asci.edu.au.
