Ashton Bain, one of our Year 12 Arts Prefects and Year 12 ATAR Visual Arts student, recently entered her sculptural work titled “Slip Sliding Away” into the Midland Arts Youth Awards called “Hyper Vision”. Ashton did extremely well and was announced as a finalist in two categories. The event opening was last Friday night - some great photos below of her artwork, and of Ashton at the opening event. Well done, Ashton!

SALVOS WINTER APPEAL - Junior School request for donations
As COVID-19 continues to impact our community, we need to be compassionate and committed global citizens and look to how we can make a difference in our own small way. Families and students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items (canned goods/long-life boxed items). We are still collecting until pickup on Monday 9 August. Thank you.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Once again this year, the Year 3 classes from St Mark’s will be participating in a project called Operation Christmas Child. This is a charity project run by Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian organisation which supports children in need around the world. We are seeking donations to fill shoeboxes which will be given to children less fortunate than ourselves. Items can be placed in the large boxes set up in the Year 2/3 open area.
Donations are for children aged 2-14 years old and can include items from the following categories:
Something to love (eg. a small soft toy or doll)
Something for school (eg. pencils, sharpener, eraser, pencil case, notebook)
Something for personal hygiene (eg. a flannel, a bar of soap, a hairbrush, a toothbrush)
Something to wear (eg. any new clothes, hats, shoes or underwear)
Something to play with (eg. a ball, a small toy, a yoyo, a skipping rope)
Something special (eg. a bag to carry their box, a bracelet or necklace, small books)
For postage and safety reasons, we cannot accept liquids, pastes, gels or balms or any items related to war. All items must also be new, as per the charity guidelines. Thank you in advance for your support of this important project. Please contact Mrs Greaves via email egreaves@stmarks.wa.edu.au should you have any further questions.

St George's Art Exhibition
Three of our talented Senior School artists represented our School in the 18th Annual St George’s Art Exhibition at St George’s Cathedral during the school holidays. Congratulations to Year 10 Saloni Devshi, who entered a mixed-media ceramic sculpture, Year 11 Emilia Wild, who showed a mixed-media oil painting and Year 12 Meganne Betteridge, for her large-scale charcoal drawing. These creative artworks will be on display later this year at the St Mark’s Art Exhibitions.
Senior School Wellness Workshops
Our Chaplaincy Team is running a fantastic wellness program for Senior School students on Tuesday afternoons after school.
The first event was held on Tuesday 3 August, and students had the opportunity to hear from an Old Scholar, Steph Innes (Head Prefect, Class of 2016), on how social media adversely affected her and her self image. Steph, now a Nutritionist and Fitness Instructor, spoke about how she changed her view of herself, and how she now uses social media to promote healthy eating, healthy life and a healthy self image. You can follow Steph on Instagram @stephs_sun
The next Wellness Workshop for Senior School Students will take place on Tuesday 10 August. The guest speaker will be another Old Scholar, James Gilbert (Class of 2009). James is a Youth Worker for the City of Joondalup, and will focus on the topic of relationships, including what a healthy one looks like, how an unhealthy one might appear, and how to build healthy relationships.
The third workshop will take place on the afternoon of 17 August, with the guest speaker, Bree Gilbert, who has recently joined the St Mark's Wellness Team as a social worker, and who has previously worked at Headspace. Bree will talk about the role of a young person's role as a supporter of someone dealing with mental illness. Bree will explain what is helpful and unhelpful in that relationship.

Volunteer Opportunities
Have you logged your hours?
If you have logged hours in Term 1 or 2 this year, but aren't sure how many you have completed, you can now check your information in the documents located on this page. All you need to do is search the PDF for your Family Code (as shown on your Fee Statement).
Following feedback from parents in Term 2, there are now two versions of the records available:
A summary of all hours recorded as at 25 July 2021 (per Family Code)
A detailed list of individual line items per Family Code as at 25 July 2021.
Please note that the document will be updated at the end of Term 3, 2021.
Our records indicate that more than 50% of parents have yet to log any hours at all. We encourage you log your hours as soon as possible after completing the activity. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, please check out the table located in the link in the first paragraph of this article.
Active involvement in the life of the School is both a precondition and a continuing condition of enrolment, and all families are required to provide a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer service per year, through supporting community activities or by providing practical help to the School. Each family is responsible for logging their own hours, using the online system located within the Parent Portal. As outlined in the Admissions Application form and in Confirmation of Enrolment documents, signed by parents, an additional P&F levy of $330 may be applied if hours are incomplete.
Around the School
Endeavour
In Term 2, we surveyed parents on a potential change to the distribution date of the Endeavour yearbook, from the final day of Term 4, to Term 1 in 2022. The majority of parents were in favour of the 2022 publication date, and the School has chosen to go with the majority. It is important to note the following:
The 2020 Speech Night/Presentation Afternoon Awards will be included in the 2021 Endeavour and distributed in Term 1, 2022.
The 2021 Awards will also be included in the yearbook distributed in Term 1, 2022.
In all future editions, the Awards will appear in the publication for the year in which they were awarded, i.e. the 2022 Awards will be included in the 2022 Endeavour, which will be distributed in Term 1, 2023.
Year 11s and 12s have always finished their school year prior to the distribution of Endeavour, and have always been able to collect their copy after publication. This will continue, with the only change being that they will collect it in Term 1, 2022 and not during the summer holidays. Emails will be sent to all parents of current Year 12s, early in 2022 with a reminder to collect their copy.
