AQUATHLON CHAMP

Congratulations to Lua from Year 6 on her selection to represent Western Australia in the 2022 Aquathlon Championship. This team will be competing at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Hervey Bay, Queensland in September. Aquathlon is a multisport race consisting of continuous run and swim elements.

Well done, Lua!

ST MARK'S ART STAR

Year 11 student, Ashlynn's multi-media artwork has been selected for the Meta Exhibition at North Metro TAFE.

Her artwork is about the contrasting biomes of the city and nature. She developed the concept for her artwork while on an excursion to Perth City. Ashlynn's artwork will be on display from 1-19 of August 2021 at Gallery Central, 12 Aberdeen Street, Perth.

On Friday, a team of 60 runners from Years 2 – 6 represented the School at the Interschool Cross Country at Mawson Park.

While cross country running often conjures up images of grey skies and muddy tracks, the athletes were greeted with sunshine and near-perfect conditions. All students are to be commended for the positive manner in which they represented the school – giving their best efforts to their event and offering support and encouragement to their teammates throughout the day. This great team effort resulted in St Mark’s finishing the day in third place in Division A. Peter Moyes took the win with Whitford Catholic in second place.

Congratulations to the students below for finishing in the top 20 for their event. The next challenge for our Year 3 – 6 cross country runners will be the State Championships on 12 August.

Training is Friday mornings at 7.00am and games commence Week 2 of Term 3.

Medication Expiry Dates

Please ensure that you keep a record (and set a reminder) for the expiry date of all medication supplied to the school, including Epipens and Ventolin carried by older students. Please contact the Wellness Centre on 9403 1331 if you are unsure of the expiry date for your child's medication held at School.

Medical Action Plans

It is recommended that Medical Action Plans are reviewed every 12 months and should be no more than 2 years old. If your child has a new or updated Medical Action Plan, please email the updated plan to nurse@stmarks.wa.edu.au.

A friendly reminder that Term 2 will finish this Friday 1 July and Term 3 will commence on Wednesday 27 July.

We would like to wish our St Mark's families a safe and blessed holiday break.

Wow! What a week that was! The campus had an extra hum of excitement as it was immersed into the world of the arts during Arts Week.

Students and staff participated in workshops where we painted, drew and wrote positive messages onto canvas triangles for bunting or dyed cotton for prayer flags. We learnt to drum on buckets, partook in ukulele flash mobs and danced our hearts out. Our painted piano was rolled out for many talented musicians' impromptu performances, and our choirs and ensembles/orchestras entertained our mornings with before-school performances.

The Art Dept showcased student artwork throughout the whole of the Secondary school, with pop-up exhibitions of student art in every available space, drama performances in the PAC, media displays and even some lunchtime busking!

We certainly found our tribe!

The ASC Piano Competition is back for 2022 with entries required as quickly as possible.

The invitation to enter is in consultation with your piano teacher. If you are a student of St Mark’s, learn piano either at school or outside the school you are welcome to enter. Every level of ability is encouraged from Preliminary to Diploma standard. There are cash prizes and trophies for outstanding performers.

Please refer to the poster for all details including the most important date of Wednesday 31 August for the performances at Peter Moyes. Students will be placed into heats and all transport to and from is a parental responsibility.

The ASC Combined Schools Concert is one of the highlights of our music calendar and brings all fourteen ASC schools from across Australia together in the Perth Concert Hall to make amazing music every two years. The next concert will be held on Friday 31 March 2023, and information packs are now available.

Whatever your musical tastes, the ASC Combined Schools Concert has an ensemble or band for you. The open ensembles/bands (no audition required) are Concert Band, Massed Choir, String Orchestra, Percussion Group and Indigenous Student Performance Group. The auditioned ensembles/bands are Symphony Orchestra, Select Choir, Stage Band, Rock Band, HipHop Group and Solo parts. In addition, we are excited to launch the first-ever ASC Songwriter competition! Entry is open to all students currently in Years 5-11, but entry is not automatic (even for open ensembles), and you should discuss the difficulty of the repertoire with your tutor/ensemble director as a first step.

If you would like to be involved, please download and read the information pack and follow the instructions. Auditioned groups require you to record yourself playing or singing at your best and upload it online before completing an online application form.

All sign-ups, videos and applications must be submitted by Sunday 21 August 2022. Successful applicants will be notified early in Term 4.

The City of Joondalup is excited to welcome Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company to the Redmond Theatre, Prendiville Performing Arts Centre for Bilya Kaatijin.

Bilya Kaatijin (which means “Fresh Water Knowledge” in Noongar) is the fourth and final story in Yirra Yaakin’s Kaatijin series. Journeying through global Dreaming stories the show teaches its audiences about the importance of acknowledging and understanding other cultures, the power of empathy and connection and the impacts of climate change to land and water in our communities.
