St Mark's is the Overall CAS Sport Champion for 2021!

Following the fantastic commitment by all of our CAS Sports Teams throughout the summer and winter CAS Sport Program, St Mark's has been confirmed as the 2021 Overall CAS Sport Champion! The Middle and Senior School students involved in one of our many teams - including basketball, netball, cricket, soccer, football, volleyball, indoor beach volleyball and touch football - are to be congratulated for their commitment to their team, and for demonstrating their best selves, each and every week. Well done to all of our teams!

Great Cycle Challenge

Congratulations to Rohan Naik (5HUE) who took part in the Great Cycle Challenge, which raises funds for, and awareness of, children's cancer. He completed an amazing 182km and raise over $1,000! This is a terrific commitment, and wonderful achievement. Well done, Rohan!

Scholarship Success

Sarah Watson (CH11.2) has been awarded a 2022 scholarship by the Australian Girls Choir as one of their most promising performers and will hold a key leadership position in 2022. Congratulations Sarah!

Heart Kids

Casey Munro-Smith (C7.2) and Isla Cercarelli (6.4) volunteered their Saturday afternoon wrapping Christmas presents for the Heart Kids foundation at Karrinyup Shopping Centre. The girls managed the shift alone, learning new skills in eftpos facilities and payWave. Their wrapping skills were challenged with requests to wrap wobble boards, netballs and even a boogie board! The hours they committed to community service will go towards their Ignite Awards. Well done!

Music Notes

Sam Parnaby (W7.1) received an A+ for his first violin AMEB exam (Grade 2). Well done, Sam!

ACC Awards

Five of our staff members have been acknowledged for giving 10 years of service to the Associated and Catholic Colleges Sports Association. Well done to Mr Daniel Lehman, Mr David Bailey, Mr John Simmons, Mrs Peggy Bakalis and Mr Scott Rowland. Our students in Middle and Senior School appreciate the time you give to them each year as sports coaches and team managers - thank you for your commitment!

We are excited to announce that Meganne Betteridge from Year 12, 2021, has been selected for Pulse Perspectives, from a state wide selection of Year 12 student artwork. This is a highly prestigious group to be a part of and the exhibition will be held at the Art Gallery of WA from 19 April 2022.

Artist's Statement: I wanted to reflect my own Celtic, Nordic and Anglo-Saxon heritage. My intention was to convey a sense of past and present. My roots and heritage are still connected to me, no matter where I reside. I am just a small part of a whole, made up of all the people and cultures that came before me.

St Mark's has been a part of the Associated & Catholic Colleges of WA since the School's earliest days, and is proud to be sharing the history of the ACC in this remarkable book, The Right Spirit, which captures the most memorable days and finest achievements of ACC school children across 85 years. St Mark's is pleased that one of our athletes, Charli-Rose Carlyon, is featured on the cover!

The Anglican Schools Commission International is looking for caring families to host regional, interstate and international students intending to study at St Mark’s Anglican Community School.

A home stay provides a student with the opportunity to live in a home setting, taking away some of the stresses of living away from family. It also gives them insight into Australian culture and the chance to further build their English language skills. In return, your family with have the opportunity to learn more about your guest's home country and expand your own global horizons. Many lifelong friendships are built through home stays, and it can be very rewarding both the host family and the student. Hosts are also paid a weekly fee.

With the WA borders reopening this week, many students are looking to travel to Perth and the majority of these will need home stay families. If you would like to find out more about hosting a regional, interstate or international student, please contact the ASCI's Accommodation Coordinator at homestay@asci.edu.au.

3P Photography will be holding Family Photography Sessions in the Ken Fairfield Hall on Friday 26 November for all interested families. Get your family dressed up and get ready to update your photo walls! Grandparents may wish to have a copy for Christmas too! As a bonus for our students, 3P Photography have kindly offered to donate $20 from every order to the School's P&F Association.

Year 2 to Year 5 2022 Orientation Day on 26 November

All current St Mark's Year 1 to 4 students should wear their House uniform on Friday for their 2022 Orientation Day. Students who will be new to St Mark's in 2022 should wear their current sports uniform.

Event Tickets

Bookings can only be made online here. If you cannot access the link from your phone, please use an alternative device. There is an initial limit of three tickets per family (tickets are free) In order to allow all families an opportunity to book tickets, please only log on once to book your initial tickets (maximum of three). It is ESSENTIAL to book your initial tickets BEFORE 4pm on Friday 26 November

From 4pm on Friday 26 November any remaining seats will be made available for families to book extra tickets (in addition to their initial three) if they wish to do so Bookings for all tickets close at 5pm on Monday 29 November. Please be aware that it will not be possible to arrange to have any additional bookings moved to be adjacent to original bookings.

It is not necessary to book tickets for performing ELC students. Subject to class commitments, students in Years 2 and 3 and any ELC siblings in Years 4 and 5 will be given the opportunity to attend one of the dress rehearsals. It will therefore not be necessary for Junior School siblings to attend the actual performances.

Parents of students who will be in Years 9 to 11 in 2022 are asked to make a note in their diaries of a Parent Information Evening, set to be held early in Term 1, 2022. It is scheduled to take place on Monday 7 February 2022, at 6pm. More details will be provided closer to the time - but diarise it now!

Year 6 Interhouse Sports Day

As part of the St Mark’s Sporting Program, Year 6s will be participating in an Interhouse Sports Day. The focus for the event will be participation, teamwork and developing interpersonal skills. Senior students will be providing coaching and umpiring for all teams and fixtures.

DATE: Tuesday 30 November

TIME: Arrive at school at 8:30am. Meet in the Floreat building

VENUE: Secondary oval and courts

SPORTS: Basketball, Netball, Soccer and Ultimate Vortex

FOOD: Students must bring their own snacks, recess and water bottles. Lunch will be provided, vegetarian and gluten free options will be available.

UNIFORM: House uniform. If students have their own shin guards, please send them with your child.

MEDICATIONS: Please ensure you child brings any personal medical requirements such as asthma puffers.

Year 8 Celebration Day

Parents and carers of our Year 8 cohort are invited to attend a special assembly to mark the end of their time in Middle School at St Mark's.

The Years 6 to 8 Academic Extension Inquiry Project Presentation Afternoon was a huge success. Students enjoyed sharing their research projects and their metacognition in their process journals. Parents used QR codes to delve further into the topics displayed. The students were thoroughly engaged in their passions and formulated quotes to sum up their learning. We are in good hands with these students, who are all striving for excellence.

A huge thank you to Maintenance Team for their support, and Mrs Buchanan and the Home Economics Team for creating our specialist cupcakes. We appreciate the dedicated teaching staff that always take that extra step to make sure our students engage with their learning and to embrace the possibilities

The St Mark's Marine and Maritime students in Year 11 and 12 are a lucky bunch! Not only do they get to enjoy snorkelling off our beautiful Perth beaches, but they also gain their SCUBA diving qualifications along with underwater photography experience! Then in Year 12 they develop boat-handling and navigation skills through the attainment of their Skippers’ Ticket! To top it off, there is an optional 5-day camp to Coral Bay next year - a marine lovers’ paradise. Students will dive the reef, participate in a Manta Ray Tour, a Whale Shark Tour and Glass Bottom Boat Tour plus will get to try underwater scooters!

Thank you to the parents who came along last night to hear about the Coral Bay Camp. The Camp is open to to Year 11 and 12 students completing either Marine & Maritime Studies or Biology. Please be advised places for the Camp are limited, and a deposit is required so to secure a place for your child. Deposits are due by next Wednesday 1 December, and can be paid online.

Music Tutor and Ensemble Director John Ralph and his Guitar Ensembles performed a special end of year Christmas Concert Yesterday afternoon in the Barbara Godwin Performing Arts Complex. The Ensembles have been rehearsing together weekly throughout the year and all proudly performed together in front of an appreciative audience of parents and siblings.

The St Mark's Netball Club is calling for a volunteer/s to assist with sewing velcro tabs onto netball dresses. All materials will be supplied. Each dress has four velcro tabs on the front and back of the dress to secure the position bibs (8 tabs in total per dress). A great job to do over the holidays to catch up on your hours for this year - or carry over to next year!

Want to win a fantastic raffle or silent auction prize at the Fete next year? Then we need your help!

We want to make the hamper prizes for 2022 Fete Silent Auction and Raffle some of the best ever. If you could buy a little something extra on your next shopping trip and donate it to the Fete Committee, it would make a big difference! Your small contribution can turn a simple hamper into a super hamper!

To give you an idea of what to consider donating, we have come up with themed suggestions for each year level (see table below), but feel free to go outside those suggestions if you have something else in mind. All donations will be gratefully received! For the hampers, new items are required. Secondhand or pre-loved items are best for the Trash 'n Treasure, Book and Toy Stalls.

There will be boxes to collect your donations in Main Reception, Junior Reception and Early Learning Centre. Ideally, donations should be dropped off before Friday 3 December.

Looking for way to reduce costs when shopping for textbooks and other items? Check out the Sustainable School Shop (SSS), and reuse and recycle!

SSS makes the buying and selling of second hand text books a quick and easy process. It was first introduced at St Mark’s in 2013 and since then over 2,500 items have been traded!

The St Mark's P&F is once again funding full membership to Sustainable School Shop for the School community. This service is most relevant to families in Middle and Senior school. Families who registered last year have had their memberships extended to November 30, 2022. Please take the time to check whether your existing listings are current.

New registrations are encouraged via www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au. Simply register your details and nominate St Mark’s Anglican Community School as the school attended.

All the St Mark’s booklists are loaded onto SSS. All you need to do is tick the items you would like to buy - or sell - secondhand and SSS does the rest. It will show you which items are available and where, and will match buyers and sellers. It really is as simple as that.

HINT: When buying and selling, be sure to compare the ISBN numbers of the books - this gives you peace of mind that you are buying/selling the correct edition of the text.

HINT: If you have any books for sale, simply search the ISBN number in SSS to see if someone else - anywhere in Australia - is looking to buy it. Why not email them and offer to send it?

Plan to reuse and recycle this year with Sustainable School Shop!

The Fete Committee are hard at work, preparing for a wonderful day out in Term 1, 2022. There are a few areas where the Fete Committee love some support:

Food Stalls

We're looking for volunteers to help coordinate some of our popular favourites at the Fete. If you love food, and are willing to give it a go, get in touch! You can share the role with a friend, and the Fete Committee will be supporting you throughout, including with getting in touch with suppliers where needed, helping with volunteer call outs, so you won't be doing this solo. It is a great way to earn parent hours, and contribute to one of the School's biggest community events.

Entertainment

We are inviting students and local performance groups to register their interest in providing entertainment on the day of the Fete - musicians, dancers, street magic, martial arts demos, gymnastics, and more - if you have a skill you'd like to showcase, get in touch and let us know how you will help us wow the crowds!

Trash 'n Treasure Stall Coordinator

We are looking for someone (or a pair of someones if you wish to share the role!) to assist with the coordination of the ever-popular Trash 'n Treasure Stall. You can share the role with a friend, and the Fete Committee will be supporting you throughout, including helping find volunteers to work on the stall during the day. We have had heaps of donations come in already, so the Stall will be well-stocked for our bargain hunters!

Applications for the City of Joondalup Youth Awards close on Sunday 28 November. The awards are designed to encourage young people to further their studies beyond Year 10, and are to the value of $1,000. There are awards for both ATAR and General/VET students. Brightwater's Christmas Appeal

Not-for-profit organisation provides care to some of Australia's most vulnerable people, due to the effects of ageing, Huntington's disease and acquired brain injury, who do not have access to family or financial support. This year, Brightwater would like all of its residents to feel the true spirit of the festive season through the magic of receiving a gift from Santa. They are calling for donations of small items, such as chocolates, soaps, perfumes, socks, bodywash or any other small item that you think would be suitable for either our male or female residents.
