Congratulations to St Mark's Team Kragle and Team Emmet - who, on Saturday 12 November 2022, competed in the Carramar region FIRST LEGO League Challenge.
Team Kragle won the competition, and their Mentor, Mr Andrew Coffin, was awarded The Coach and Mentor Award.
Team Emmet came 11th in the competition. And the Judges were very impressed with Team Emmet’s Innovation Project and said, “their work was very impressive for first-year competitors”.
FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children ages 9-16 through fun, hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through engaging in research, problem-solving, and building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a real-world problem.
This year’s FIRST LEGO League Challenge theme was “First Energise”, which focuses on affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for everyone.
Team Kragle consisted of the following students:
- Francesca Lei-Nguyen, Cadel Coffin and Emily Prestage - Year 7
- Koga Haywood - Year 6
- Sam McCallum, Hayes Lambie and Marshall Munro Smith - Year 5
- Freya Prestage - Year 4
Mr Andrew Coffin, an Old Scholar, was Team Kragle’s Mentor and Mr McLean the Coach.
Team Emmet consisted of the following students:
- Jensen Bramwell – Year 7
- Toby Brien, Hugo Brierley, Ryder Collins and Zachary Pascoe – Year 5
- Tristan Plant, Benjamin Brown, Benjamin King, Bryn Gordon, and Claudia Lei-Nguyen – Year 4
Mr Troy Munro-Smith (also a parent of a Team Kragle member) was Team Emmet’s Mentor, and Mrs Tammy Duff was Coach.
What an amazing result for St Mark's! Team Kragle will now go to the National District Finals held at Curtin University on 10 December 2022.
