ROCKIN' VOCALS!

Philippa K (Year 10) recently completed her Rock School Grade 5 Vocal Exam with a fantastic score of 87/100.

ST MARK'S REPRESENTED AT THE VAULTING CHAMPS

Year 7 student, Imogen, recently represented St Mark's at the Interschool Vaulting Championships held during the last school holidays.

Imogen placed 3^rd in both her events which is a fantastic result as it is the first time she has competed at this level - performing whilst the horse is at a canter speed as opposed to a walk.

She will now head to Sydney during October to represent WA at the interstate championships.

Well done, Imogen!

BOARD RIDING CHAMPS

Last Saturday, the 2022 Surf Life Saving Board Riding Championships were held at Trigg Beach, and we are excited to share Year 9 student, Jackson T, was awarded a gold medal and State Champion in the U14 Male Short Board and his team won a bronze for the Open Board Mixed Teams.

Congratulations to Kaila from Year 11 on winning the “Young Patrol Person of the Year 2021/2022” at Sorrento Surf Club's Annual Awards on Saturday 28 May.

This award acknowledges the commitment and time volunteered by a patrol person to the club and community that goes above and beyond what is required.

Yesterday our Year 5 and 6 cohort took part in the annual Lightning Carnival. This event gives students of all abilities the opportunity to participate in their chosen sport and represent their school. This year the carnival offered an array of sports for students to choose from including hockey, football, netball and soccer with an emphasis on participation and team spirit.

One of the benefits of the Lightning Carnival is that our students get the opportunity to mix with and meet other students from other schools across the northern suburbs as well as giving some of our Senior Students the opportunity to volunteer their time and provide leadership on the day by way of coaching.

Thank you to the staff for accompanying our students on the day and to our Student volunteers for giving up their time to help. It was a successful Lightning Carnival and we look forward to next year’s event.

Thank you to the Year 10 parents who responded to the request to sign their child up for either the 'Provide First Aid' certification or 'Start Your Side Hustle' course option for the Term 3 Challenge program, part of the Future Ready curriculum.

As outlined in previous communications, those students who have not submitted a 'booking' will be enrolled in the 'Start Your Side Hustle' option.

Bookings will be reopened until 10am Monday 20 June for anyone who is yet to respond.

Medication Expiry Dates

Please ensure that you keep a record (and set a reminder) for the expiry date of all medication supplied to the school, including Epipens and Ventolin carried by older students. Please contact the Wellness Centre on 9403 1331 if you are unsure of the expiry date for your child's medication held at School.

Medical Action Plans

It is recommended that Medical Action Plans are reviewed every 12 months and should be no more than 2 years old. If your child has a new or updated Medical Action Plan, please email the updated plan to nurse@stmarks.wa.edu.au.

Our Old Scholars' Association are calling for expressions of interest from those looking to join a fortnightly playgroup. The OSA anticipate that the playgroup will be held once a fortnight, from 9am - 10.30am in the Parish Centre at the Whitfords Anglican Community Church (on St Mark's ACS grounds).

At the end of last year, staff participated in the first of four days of professional learning in the Berry Street Education Model. It is necessary to undertake the Days 2 and 3 of training together at the beginning of Term 3 this year.

As a result, students will not resume Term 3 until Wednesday July 27, one day later than has been published in this year’s planner.

We will remind families of this throughout Term 2.

Withdrawals from the Instrumental Music program must be received by this Friday 17 June. If your child has shown interest in learning an instrument, we have 19 incredibly talented Music Tutors at St Mark's who would love to welcome your child to the world of music, with applications for Term 3 enrolments now open.

St Mark's offers the following options: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Percussion, Piano and Voice. Please note that the deadline for Term 3 enrolments and withdrawals this Friday 17 June. Withdrawals after this date will be processed at the end of Term 3, and will incur another term's fees.

Parents are invited to listen to the primary choirs outside the school coffee van during Arts week (near the quadrangle outside the senior library).

This will be a lovely morning to hear what we have been rehearsing and grab a coffee too!

In Term 3, our Primary Interhouse Music Eisteddfod will take place in the PAC Auditorium on Monday 1 August.

Applications are now open to students in Years 2 - 5 to register for this Eisteddfod.

The entry fee for the Eisteddfod is $10 per entrant; this flat fee covers multiple entries on individual instruments and ensemble entries.

On Wednesday 15 June, our Year 9 and 10 Specialist and Certificate II Music students will have the opportunity to share their talents with a live audience in the PAC. There will be a range of different solo instrumental, vocal and ensemble performances covering a diverse range of genres.

The annual North of Perth Festival is on again in September, with opportunities to perform in front of an audience, receive feedback and win cash prizes!

There are many different categories to enter, including piano solo, duet, string solo, woodwind/brass solo, classical guitar solo, small instrumental ensemble, vocal solo, vocal small group and speech and drama. Many of our St Mark’s choirs will be entering the choral sections, but students are encouraged to enter some of the other sections on offer.

The closing date for entries is Monday 20 June 2022, and entries must be received with payment by this date.

The City of Joondalup's Defeat The Beat Competition is on again, and our very own Year 10 music student, Luke C, has been selected to compete as one of five groups to perform!

This exciting all-ages event is on Tuesday 12 July at the Bar1 Nightclub, Hillarys Boat Harbour.

Each year we take our Year 10 art students to the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) to gain inspiration from the work seen in the Pulse Perspectives show. This exhibition showcases the very best of Year 12 artwork from the previous year.

The students also had a tour of the incredible variety of First Nations work, visited the sculpture walk on the rooftop of AGWA and then took part in an art workshop in the gallery studio space.

The St Mark's Parents & Friends' Association cordially invites all members of our School community to join them for the annual Welcome Sundowner. Usually scheduled for the early part of Term 1, COVID-19 restrictions saw the P&F postpone the event, with the new now date confirmed as 28 June 2022. The Sundowner will be followed by the P&F's Annual General Meeting.

The Sundowner will be held in the Foyer and Courtyard of the Barbara Godwin Performing Arts Complex, with the AGM taking place in the auditorium immediately following the Sundowner.

Helen O'Grady Drama Academy holds weekly drama classes across the northern suburbs for all ages.

Their Speech and Drama program focuses on developing ongoing confidence, boosting self-esteem and building strong communication and social skills. Each week students are engaged in a range of drama activities, including speech work, improvisation, creative movement, characterisation and a number of drama exercises designed to utilise the student's own creative ideas.
