WIMWA Summit
Last week, we had the privilege of attending the 16th annual Women in Mining and Resources Summit with an enthusiastic group of future leaders from Years 10-12. This inspiring event brought together voices that are challenging the status quo and advocating for positive change in the industry.
The summit focused on themes of change, connection, and community, leaving us feeling motivated to take action in our own learning and leadership journeys. We heard from a range of speakers who shared their experiences and insights, emphasising the importance of speaking up and finding better ways to approach challenges.
Our students engaged actively in the discussions and left with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration. This experience not only broadened their understanding of the mining and resources sector but also encouraged them to think critically about their roles as future leaders.
We look forward to seeing how our students will apply what they learned as they continue their educational journeys.
Student Reflections:
I was extremely grateful to have been able to attend the WIMWA summit excursion. There was such a good line up of speakers and I took away so much from the experience and the talks. I particularly enjoyed Dr Mark Williams' panel on the neuroscience of making connections, and took away lots of key points to apply in the school and work environment. I was very privileged to have gone through the school, and it is an experience I will never forget. It was so encouraging and inspiring to hear the stories of different women in the mining industries, who are paving the way for our generation. Thank you.

I went both days to the WIMWA summit and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were so many great speakers and so much to learn from each and every one. I was especially fond of Craige Foster’s speech as it was very deep and talked about leadership and speaking out for others even when it is difficult. I got a lot of information out of this summit and I got to meet lots of amazing women in the mining industry it has really made me consider joining the industry when I am older.

On Thursday and Friday the 12th and 13th of September I was lucky enough to be gifted a ticket to the annual WIMWA convention. Each day was filled with a variety of different speakers, all very unique but all relating to the overreaching idea of “belonging”. I am so grateful to have given the chance to attend such an event as I have come out with new confidence strive for what is right and comfort that there is support all around you just need to ask. Even throughout the breaks, between speeches, we got to meet and talk to people within the industry themselves and it has opened up so many new pathways. Overall it was such an incredible experience and we were so lucky to be able to attend. I think it is safe to say if the opportunity presented itself again I would grab it in an instance.
