Western Force Cup | Rugby Review Round 5
Conditions were fantastic for some running rugby last week. There were some hotly contested fixtures and plenty of outstanding performances against Round 5s opposition, Joseph Banks Secondary College.
Year 6/7/8 Girls
The Middle School girls started the game slow and conceded a try straight off the kick-off. However, through great grit and resilience, the girls rallied and scored the next three tries. The girls put their bodies on the line and were very physical against a strong opponent. Special mentions must go out to Naomi and Jada for scoring their first tries and to Olivia for playing her first game. The best on ground was Mackenzie, and the end score was 5 tries to 3.
Year 11/12 Girls
The Senior School girls had a hard day in the office. However, there were some outstanding phases of play. Two highlights for the coach were the try Ellie scored off a perfectly timed pop pass from Kira and seeing Isabel lay out a perfectly timed tackle that sent the opposition player halfway back to Joseph Banks. The girls worked hard for the full match and finished the game strong. They should be very proud of their efforts today. The final score was 3 tries to 6.
Year 11/12 Boys
With our Year 11 and 12 boys coming off with a slim loss last week, they came firing on Wednesday against Joseph Banks Secondary College. Our boys ran on with an electric start right from the kick off and scored two tries in the first half, Joseph Banks struggled against St Mark's tight defence and ball security, having them not enter the twenty-two in the entire first half. After the halftime break, Joseph Bank’s turned the tables with their boys scoring two tries to level the match. But our boys kept their heads up and continued to stick to their game plan, with doing so, they had an awesome reply to Joseph Banks and scored another two to win the match. Great sportsmanship from our senior boys leaving the pitch shaking hands with the referee, opposition coach and players. The final score was 4 tries to 2 - a great win for St Mark's!
With a coach short, a few of the boys decided either to help coach or to stay and support our Year 7/8s and 9/10s boys and girls.
What a day!
Year 6/7/8 Boys
The 6/7/8 boys played in a classic tale of two halves. There were many solid performances. Kobi lead the way in the defence and was exceptional. Kye and Taj attacked very well and were elusive. The boys worked hard as a team but were outplayed. It was great to see the extra numbers on the field. The highlight of this fixture was the input from the Senior players. Congratulations must go to Griff, Aiden, Cian and Owen for helping out with the Junior team. Unfortunately, we were beaten 2 tries to 6.
Year 9/10 Boys
The 9/10s had a tough outing. They worked hard with reduced team numbers but were met with some stiff opposition and did a lot of defence. Hopefully, the boys have a good understanding of the importance of tackling low. There were some solid individual performances over the course of the 14 minutes. Callum did a lot of work in defence and is to be commended. The final score was 4 tries to 6.
The last season fixture will be taking place this Wednesday from 4-7pm. The students will be playing in a night carnival and will play multiple games over the course of the night.
