Pedal Power in Action: Year 5 Bike Ed Program Rolls Ahead

During Term 1, our Year 5 students have been gearing up for success through the Bike Ed program, a fun and practical part of our Physical Education curriculum. With guidance from the Police Department’s Bike Education Program and expert instruction from AusCycling, students have been developing the skills, confidence, and road safety awareness they need to become capable and cautious riders.

Each session has brought new challenges and valuable learning experiences. From conducting bike and helmet safety checks to mastering left and right-hand turns, emergency stops, and hand signalling, students have steadily built their cycling know-how through hands-on practice and expert advice.

The program culminated in an on-campus ride, where students put their skills to the test. They navigated roundabouts, stop signs, and way signs, all while tackling the extra challenge of real-time school traffic—a great way to build practical awareness in a controlled environment.

We’re incredibly proud of the way our Year 5 students have embraced the program, showing resilience, responsibility, and enthusiasm every step (or pedal) of the way. Not only are they safer riders, but they’ve also had a blast learning skills that will serve them well for life.
