Hoogenkamp Spirit Cup

K White’s Warriors and Bentley’s Battalion squared off in a thrilling and unforgettable showdown at the Hoogenkamp Spirit Cup, uniting students, families, and Old Scholars in a heartfelt display of community spirit. The game was a true celebration of determination, camaraderie and some athleticism.

Both teams gave it their all from the first whistle to the final siren, showcasing a spectacular array of tackles, kicks, and marks that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. While the competition was fierce and every player left everything on the field, the match was about much more than just the final score. They were playing for the memory of our beloved classmate and member of the 2020 cohort, Kristian Hoogenkamp. Kristian lost his battle against a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, in 2019, and to honour his passion for footy, this annual fixture has become a tradition.

A significant highlight of the game was K White’s Warriors proudly sporting new student-designed jersey in a heartfelt tribute to Kristian. The jerseys featured the yellow ribbon for cancer awareness and the powerful message "Forever 16," paying tribute to Kristian’s legacy and marking the occasion with a deep sense of purpose.

The event, expertly organised by the School’s Prefect Group, extended beyond the game itself, becoming a full-scale community celebration. Food trucks offered a variety of delicious options, while the school’s rock band delivered an electrifying half-time performance that kept the energy high. The day also featured an exciting raffle with amazing prizes generously donated by local businesses and families.

A standout moment of the event came from Campbell McKenzie, whose charismatic and lively commentary brought the game to life and created an atmosphere rivalling professional sports events.

The real victory, however, was the sense of togetherness and purpose. With enthusiastic participation from students, who embraced the event by wearing sports uniforms and funky socks, along with the successful raffle, over $3,700 was raised for Sock it To Sarcoma. The funds will go toward supporting vital research and awareness for this important cause, a fitting tribute to the community's ability to come together for something larger than the game.

The success of the Kristian Hoogenkamp Spirit Cup would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of local donors, including
