Year 7/8 Cricket

On Wednesday afternoon, two teams of Year 6 – 8 students played a friendly game of cricket on the Secondary Oval. The mood was fun, light-hearted, and good fun for all who played. The team led by Alex D (Y8) batted first, setting a solid run chase for the other team. The second team, led by Hamish C (Y8), put up a strong effort but were not able to chase down the runs required to win the game. A big thank you to Mr Davies for organising and overseeing the afternoon of cricket.

Year 8-9 Indoor Cricket Result: Win: 92/32

Sensational performances in the field and outstanding displays of fast and precise bowling made for an impressive match. The batting started with excellent technique, demonstrating strong fundamentals, while the fielding was elevated by exceptional teamwork and communication. This week's standout players, earning Best on Ground honours, were Harry E, Ayrton H, and Aaron J. Well done!

Year 7-9 Touch Rugby - Girls Result: WIN 5-3

I was really proud to see the effort from all the girls out on the field. The returning players were excellent at keeping us on track – Newly appointed captain London and old guard Charleigh kept control in the middle whilst Jasmine was a safe set of hands and a defensive force on the outside.

Charleigh really ‘used her head’ when looking for gaps in the defence. Hopefully, she feels better after a rest.

The year 7s were exceptional, considering they are playing in an 8/9 competition and new to the game. Izzy was extremely confident and kept the chat up, ensuring someone was always in at dummy half or looking for space. India was always reliable with consistent efforts through the middle - dummy half, first receiver, or play-of-the-balls – she was always there and willing to keep the girls moving forward. Ivy saw some near try-scoring opportunities out wide but was just cut off before the line – next time!

Saphira’s experience was on display, working well with the other year 8’s to free-up the extra girl and communicated brilliantly on defence or from the sideline…even very close to the coach’s ear!

Year 9s, where have you been?! Despite it being the first game for many of you, all the girls were a force out there. Scarlett was electric on the wing, crossing for three tries after consuming half a kilo of biltong and countless jelly-frogs. Imani was going to try for try with Scarlett and finished with two of her own. Where would the try scorers be without their facilitators? Lauren and Tia saw a gap and threaded their outside wingers through with ease. Stellar work, girls! Claire’s support was also felt from afar!

Year 7 Basketball - Girls Result: WIN 16-12

St Mark's Year 7 Girls’ Basketball Team got ahead early in the game, which was then challenged by Irene McCormack. We all did an excellent job dribbling up the court as a team; we fought for the rebounds very well, which helped us get more shots in. Congratulations to everyone who got a shot at it, and congratulations to everyone for putting in a significant effort. Congrats on the win!

Year 7 Basketball - Boys Result: WIN

On Wednesday, our Year 7 CAS basketball team had our first game of the series. We had a bit of a slow start, being down in the first quarter; however, by half time, we were starting to come back. After a half-time pep talk, we managed to focus more on our plays and began to get in front, resulting in a win.

Year 8 Basketball - Boys Result: WIN 84-28

In yesterday’s game against Irene McCormack, we won 84 to 28. We accomplished this with great off-ball movement and by keeping our heads up in transition. We moved the ball well, giving up good shots for great shots. After getting a stop, the wings ran fast in transition, getting easy layups quickly. Everyone scored and played well, but a few stand-out players were Noah, Lucas and Nate. All three moved the ball well, rebounded and scored with precision.

Defensively, we matched up well and held the team to a few points. We identified where our players were but still had help on the inside. Once the ball was secured in the backcourt, we ran for each other and then moved the ball till we had an open layup. If we couldn’t score in transition when the ball crossed half court, we moved the ball along quickly and cut well to score easy layups or open outside shots. It was a great game, and l hope we can keep playing well in the next one

Year 9 Basketball - Boys Result: WIN 32-30

On Wednesday, our St Mark's Basketball Team faced off against Irene McCormack in a thrilling match that came down to the wire, ending with a score of 32–30. The team played exceptionally well, with standout three-pointers from Nick and James helping us reclaim the lead. Gabe’s consistent layups and Dylan’s strong defence also played a crucial role in keeping us competitive. With such a close score, it’s interesting to think about how just one missed basket could have changed the outcome—a true testament to how well each player fulfilled their role. Coming off this win, the team feels confident for our next match. However, given how close the game was, we know there are still areas to improve. Overall, we’re looking forward to our next challenge, and if James and Nick keep sinking those beautiful three-pointers, we’ll hopefully secure another victory.
