A CUT ABOVE: St Mark’s Making a Difference in World’s Greatest Shave
Last Thursday, a wave of courage and compassion swept through our secondary school as a dynamic team took part in the World’s Greatest Shave initiative. Over 20 students and staff bravely cut, coloured, or shaved their hair to raise funds and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation, a beacon of support for Australian families battling blood cancer on a national scale.
Setting out with an ambitious fundraising target of $10,000, Team St Mark’s 2024 went above and beyond, smashing this goal with an outstanding total of $13,770.76! This achievement is a testament to the passion and determination of our students and staff, who rallied together for a cause that touches so many lives.
The students who registered with Team St Mark’s 2024 deserve special recognition for their outstanding efforts in fundraising. They not only contributed to the overall success but also showed tremendous support and empathy for those affected by blood cancer. Congratulations to:

The success of this initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our Service Prefects, Annika Neill and Priya McLeod, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the day ran smoothly and effectively.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone involved, including our hairdressing volunteers, bakers for the bake sale and the generous donors who supported this cause. Your contributions have made a significant impact:
- Hair longer than 20cm will be used to create wigs for patients, providing them with a sense of normalcy and confidence during their treatment journey.
- Hair shorter than 20cm will be transformed into floating hair booms, aiding in the cleanup of oil spills and protecting our precious oceans.
- Your generous donations provide families affected by blood cancer with essential practical and emotional support, helping them navigate through the challenges they face.
- Together, we are bringing the Leukaemia Foundation closer to the goal of zero lives lost to blood cancer by 2035, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
A huge thank you to everyone for making a positive impact on our community and beyond!
