NOTICE FROM DEPUTY HEAD OF PRIMARY – EARLY LEARNING

The ELC will be unveiling the new St Mark’s ELC VALUES LIONS very soon! There are 5 especially hand knitted lions, each representing one of the five St Mark’s School Values - Respect, Knowledge, Confidence, Responsibility and Community. They will each have their associated value logo stitched to their foot and will have beautiful, knitted clothing to complement their value, name and personality. Staff and students from K-12 are currently voting for the lion names. You will hear more about these special lions from your children soon, as they will be integrated into the everyday programs and routines in the ELC.

TERM 3 – ELC EVENT DATES

PP & Y1 PYJAMA DAY - 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL CELEBRATION – Wednesday 31 July
Pre-Primary and Year 1 students are invited to participate. Information has been provided by Teachers via Seesaw.

• KG-Y5 WEAR THE COLOURS OF YOUR COUNTRY TO SCHOOL – Friday 2 August
  Participation is optional but those not participating will need to wear School uniform as normal.
  Kindy Starfish are welcome to participate on Monday 5 August if they wish to.
  See more details in separate item.

• ELC CLASS ASSEMBLIES – Most Wednesdays at 2.00pm in the PAC
  Parents are welcome to attend their child’s Class Assembly.
  More details will be provided by Teachers via Seesaw closer to their Assembly date.

• PP-Y5 INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL – Wednesday 21 August (Week 6)
  Parents are welcome to attend. It is an all-day event but PP & Y1 tend to start at about 10.00am.

• K-Y5 PRIMARY BOOK WEEK – 19 to 23 August (Week 6)
  Kindy to Year 5 students will be invited to dress up as a character from their favourite book on Friday 23 August (Kindy Starfish on Tuesday 20 August). The theme this year is ‘Reading is Magical’.

• ELC FATHER/PARENT’S DAY CELEBRATION – Friday 30 August (Week 7)
  ELC Dads (or other special family member) are invited to attend from 8.30 to 10.30am. Kindy Starfish are invited as well
  
  
• Y1 EXCURSION TO PERTH ZOO – Thursday 5 September (Week 8)
  Details will be provided via Consent2Go closer to the event date. (Parents will need to respond to the invite.)
  Year 1s will not be permitted to add something yellow to their School uniform.
  
• R U OK DAY – Thursday 12 September (Week 9)
  Students are usually invited to add something yellow to their School uniform on this day.

• PP & Y1 HOUSE ACTIVITY DAY – Friday 20 September (Week 10)
  Pre-Primary and Year 1 students will need to wear their House shirts on this day.

• LAST DAY OF TERM 3 – Friday 20 September (Week 10)
  Students will finish at their normal time on this day.

• FIRST DAY OF TERM 4 – Monday 7 October
  Kindy Starfish will attend on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 1
  Kindy Turtles will attend on Thursday and Friday of Week 1

2024 ELC Various Tasks Roster

In celebration of the Olympic Games, this Friday 2 August, we are encouraging our Primary School students to get behind the efforts of all the amazing athletes by wearing to School the colours of the country they support. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our diverse community and share in the spirit of international unity and friendly competition.

Here are some guidelines for the day:

• Opt in: All Primary School students are encouraged to be part of wearing their national colours, however, we understand not all students will wish to take part. Students not participating will wear their school uniform as usual for a Friday.
• Wear Your Colours Proudly: Dress in the colours that represent your country. Whether it's a full outfit, a shirt, a hat, or even accessories, show off your national pride! Hair dyes and face paints are not to be worn.
• PE Friendly clothes: If your child’s class has PE on Friday, please ensure the clothes and footwear worn are appropriate for this lesson.

We can't wait to see everyone dressed in their country's colours!

On Friday 30 August, ELC dads and special friends will gather in the morning to celebrate Father’s Day. If you would like to earn some Parent Commitment Hours and help cook the BBQ breakfast, there are plenty of rolls to cut (please BYO a bread knife or two if you can spare it!) and sausages to cook. We will start at 7.45am and finish about 9am.

Week 6: 19 to 23 August is Book Week! “Reading is Magic”

• Friday 23 August the Primary School will celebrate Book Week by dressing up as their favourite book character. Please talk with your child/children about characters from the books they have read this year, or even some of your own favourite characters from books you have read. Children should come to school in their chosen dress up.

Week 7: 26 August to 30 August is Book Fair

• Once again, we will have Book Fair running in the Primary School Library. We encourage parents to accompany their children before or after school. It is a great time to buy some birthday and Christmas gifts!
• Book Fair opening hours:
  Monday: after school 3.15pm to 3.45pm
  Tuesday to Thursday: before school 8.15am - 8.45am, lunch time 12.55pm until 1.15pm, and also after school 3.15pm to 3.45pm
  Friday: before school 8.15 - 8.45am and lunch time 12.55pm until 1.15pm
