NOTICE FROM HEAD OF PRIMARY

It has been a sprint to the finish in the Primary School and I hope all of our families are looking forward to having their children home in the holidays.

We have had many opportunities over the past week for students to experience more than just their regular schooling. Multiple year groups have travelled on excursions around Perth including zoos, parks and farms, and I thank our parent volunteers for their support with this. Our discos last Friday were well-attended, and behaviour was exceptional as always. Once again, we were fortunate to have our parent community support this event and organise the half time snacks for very thirsty and hungry children.

This is the final week before the end of term holidays. I wish everyone a safe and relaxing vacation and hope you get to make some quality memories with your children.

REMINDER: PRE-PRIMARY DENTAL FORMS THIS WEEK PLEASE

A paper copy of the Government Dental Health Services enrolment form went home with most Pre-Primary children last week. Children who are already enrolled with Craigie Heights Dental Therapy Centre or children whose parents have already elected not to be enrolled with this Government service will not have received an enrolment form.

If you wish to be enrolled in this free service, please complete the form and return it to ELC Reception this week. Forms not returned by the end of this term will need to be delivered or posted by parents to Craigie Heights Dental Therapy Centre located at Craigie Heights Primary School on Spinaway Street in Craigie. Thank you. Please bear in mind that they are likely to be closed during school holidays. If you require more details, please contact Craigie Heights Dental Therapy Centre on 9401 3731 between 8am and 4pm during school terms.

HEADLICE CHECKS

There have been some cases of headlice in Kindy. All ELC parents are encouraged to check their child's hair regularly for any signs. Thank you.

• PP & Y1 HOUSE ACTIVITY DAY – Friday 20 September (Week 10)
  Pre-Primary and Year 1 students will need to wear their House shirts on this day.

• LAST DAY OF TERM 3 – Friday 20 September (Week 10)
  Students will finish at their normal time on this day followed by a two-week break.

ADVANCE NOTICE OF TERM 4 EVENTS

• FIRST DAY OF TERM 4 – Monday 7 October
  Kindy Starfish will attend on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 1
  Kindy Turtles will attend on Thursday and Friday of Week 1

• PP-Y4 INTERM SWIMMING LESSONS – Monday 21 October to Friday 25 October (Weeks 3 and 4)
  See separate item included in this week’s Bulletin.

• STUDENT FREE DAY – Monday 11 November (Week 6)
  Staff will be involved in a K-12 Curriculum Planning Day. Parents will need to make alternative arrangements for their children on this day. This includes all Primary (K-Y5) students and Secondary students.

• EMERGENCY DRILL – Monday 18 November (Week 7)
  This is purely for your information so that you are aware of a DRILL taking place. The drill will involve all staff and students.
  
  
• PP & Y1 PIANO CONCERT - Tuesday 19 November (1.45-2.45pm) in the PAC
  Pre-Primary and Year 1 piano lesson students will be performing. Their parents will be invited to attend.
  Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes will attend. (This item added to Bulletin 20.9.24.)

• K-5 NEW PARENT INFORMATION EVENING – Tuesday 19 November
  K-Y5 parents whose children will be new to St Mark’s in 2025 will be invited to attend this event.

• ELC ORIENTATION MORNING – Wednesday 20 November
  Our new Kindy Starfish students for 2025 will be invited to attend this event until 10.30am.
  Our current Kindy Starfish and Pre-Primary students will spend time in classrooms of their next year level and our current Year 1 students will spend time in the Junior School until approximately 10.30am.

• PRIMARY ORIENTATION MORNING – Friday 22 November
  Our new Kindy Turtle, Pre-Primary and Year 1 students for 2025 will be invited to attend this event until 10.30am.
  New Y2-6 students for 2025 will also be invited for an orientation on this day.
  Current students will spend time in classrooms of their next year level for their orientation. More details for all year levels will be provided closer to the event date.

• ELC NATIVITY PLAY 1 – Tuesday 26 November (9.00-10.30am) – Week 8
  Parents of Kindy Starfish and both Pre-Primary classes will be invited to attend (3 tickets per family due to limited seating in the PAC). Y2-5 siblings will be invited to attend a dress rehearsal. More details will be provided closer to the event date.

• ELC NATIVITY PLAY 2 – Wednesday 27 November (9.00-10.30am) – Week 8

2024 ELC Various Tasks Roster

PP-Y4 SWIMMING LESSONS (SCARBOROUGH AQUATIC POOL) – Term 4, Weeks 3 & 4

From Monday 21 October to Friday 1 November (inclusive) all students from Pre-Primary to Year 4 will participate in a swimming lesson on each school day (total of ten lessons). The upcoming school holidays provide a wonderful opportunity to ensure your children have everything they will need for the two weeks of lessons. Rashies are recommended as lessons will take place in an outdoor pool. Parents are reminded that all items being brought to school should be clearly named to ensure items are not lost. This includes all School uniform items and all swimming items (thongs for travelling to and from the venue, bathers, rashies, towels, goggles, hair brushes/combs, underwear, etc.)

Parent Consent Via Consent2Go
Detailed information will be provided via Consent2Go early next term. Parents will need to respond to the invites for each of their children as soon as they are received to ensure permission is granted for them to attend the lessons.

Government Swimming Lesson Enrolment Forms for PP-Y4
Paper copies of the required Government Swimming Lesson Enrolment Form will be sent home with all Pre-Primary to Year 4 students on Day 1 of Term 4. Please send in a completed form for your child/each child as soon as possible next term (preferably during Week 1). Completed forms should be given to class teachers. A completed form for each child will need to be given to the pool staff on Day 1 of swimming lessons (Monday 21 October).

Our Art Show is seeking several volunteers to assist on the Opening Night of the Art Show on Friday, October 4, between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

All positions will be declared vacant, and nominations are called for a new Committee. All current members of the Association are encouraged to attend the AGM, and any member may nominate to join the committee.

Whitfords Family Centre Express of Interest for 2025 are now open for our Pre-Kindy Program.

We have 2 groups:

2-3’s program, Tues, Wed, and Fri 9-12pm

4’s program Mon and Thurs 9-2pm.

St Mark’s families travelling on Endeavour Road this week may have noticed a sign on a blank wall of a building on the old Bunnings site saying that a new retailer was ‘coming soon’.

In September 2022, the School was advised of an ‘Application for the Grant of a Liquor Store Licence: Dan Murphys Hillarys’ by the Endeavour Group Limited for a proposed Dan Murphy’s outlet at 37 Endeavour Road, Hillarys. The School was invited to raise a Notice of Objection or to make a submission in support or opposition to the application. I submitted a Notice of Objection on behalf of the School in early October 2022, believing the location of the store in such close proximity to our School was inappropriate.

On 1 July 2024, the School received notification from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, that a Liquor Store Licence had been conditionally granted to the applicant. In his communication regarding the outcome of the application, the Executive Director – Racing Gaming and Liquor said that he had imposed a condition on the grant of the licence to prohibit the advertising of liquor products or other promotion of liquor (e.g. signage reflecting visual graphics of specific alcohol products, posters, a-frames, billboards, etc.):

(a) on the external facade of the licensed premises; and

(b) within a radius of 150 metres of the premises or at any place that is visible from child-focused businesses or services.

St Mark’s accepts the outcome of the process and is appreciative of the opportunity to provide feedback, by way of our objection to the granting of a licence, before a decision on the granting of a licence was made.

Families who may be considering withdrawing their child from St Mark’s at the end of this year are reminded that the School’s Acceptance Agreement states that a full term’s notice in writing must be given to the Principal before the withdrawal of a child from the School. Failure to provide such notice will involve the payment of a full term’s fees.

Whitfords Junior Cricket Club is looking for players across all age groups for the 2024-25 cricket season, which starts soon. Girls and boys are encouraged to sign up now for:

Cricket Blast (4 - 10 years)
Junior Cricket (9 - 17 years)

• WJCC provides free uniform items for all junior cricketers new to the club.

• All equipment is supplied for players in all age groups – no-one misses out whether they can purchase their own equipment or not.

Playing days are as follows:

• Fri evenings: Cricket Blast (Ages 5-10)

• Sat mornings: Year 6, 7 & 8 boys, plus Year 6/7, 8/9 and Years 10-12 girls

• Sun mornings: Year 4,5, 9, 10, 11 & 12 boys, plus Year 4/5 girls

Cricket in general remains a great-value junior sport for all girls and boys, providing them access to sport and physical activity season-after-season at a low cost compared to many other sports.

Junior Cricket (9 - 17 years) registrations close on Fri 13th September 2024.
