NOTICE FROM DEPUTY HEAD OF PRIMARY – EARLY LEARNING
Early childhood is a time of rapid growth and development, with children developing at different rates and times. With this in mind, our formal reporting of progress is slightly different to that in the later years of schooling. We do not see young children as passing or failing but developing.
Our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary teachers are meeting with parents and carers over the last two weeks of this term. They will discuss the progress made and how it is represented in our St Mark’s School Report.
As Year 1 parents understand the reporting layout, having received reports in Pre-Primary, the Year 1 teachers will meet with parents early next term to discuss the Semester 1 report and new goals for Semester 2. We encourage parents take up these opportunities to meet with teachers to understand their child’s progress and how they can further support them at home.
ELC House Activity morning will be held on Friday 21 June for Pre-Primary and Year 1 children. The children will be working in their HOUSE group, rotating through 4 activities focusing on emotional regulation, school values and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. HOUSE shirts will be required on this day.
‘Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children.’ Kenneth R. Ginsburg

Y1 ‘PLAY IN THE PAST’ INCURSION – Tuesday 11 June
The Year 1 students are to be commended for their dress ups today. They all had a wonderful time ‘playing in the past’.
‘AT HOME’ PARENT HOURS OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ELC (items needed at the latest by the end of the day next Thursday 20 June)
This task was advertised on SEESAW on Friday 31/5/24 but we are still looking for volunteers to assist so that the ELC children can create House colour murals for display outside the ELC.
We are hoping that parents will have some textile/fabric at home which can be used or alternatively will be willing to purchase approximately 1.5/2m of cheap fabric.
The textile can be plain or slightly patterned but mostly have a dominant colour of either Blue, Green, Red or Yellow. Shades or tones of the HOUSE colours are also acceptable.
The fabric will need to be cut into strips of approximately 20cm x 5cm (no sewing required just cutting). We will need approximately 50 strips of each colour which the students will then tie onto wire frames (one frame for each House colour).
One parent commitment hour per bag of approximately 50 strips can be claimed but please let Mrs Collie know (elcreception@stmarks.wa.edu.au) if the allocation of 1 hour per bag is insufficient.
Please follow the link below and add your name to the list if you are able to assist. Thank you.
