STUDENTS ATTENDING SIBLING EVENTS AT SCHOOL (Assemblies /Other Events)

Please note that when students are removed from class to attend sibling events at other locations in the School this is considered as a short term absence from class. Parents should follow the normal ‘absentee’ procedures in these cases. Notifications should be sent to the School via the SEQTA absentee app or via email to absentee@stmarks.wa.edu.au to advise that your child will either arrive late to their class, or will need to be excused from their class at a specific time. Students will need to be signed out and in (as appropriate) at their relevant Reception. Thank you.


PP INCURSION – Fire Engine visit – Thursday 6 June

• Information was recently sent out to Pre-Primary parents via Consent2Go. Parents will need to respond to the invite giving permission for their child to participate in this activity. If you have not already responded, please do so today. Thank you.
• Details: This term as part of our Pre-Primary HASS Program we have been discussing 'Communities'. As part of our 'Community' project we will have Kevin from Fire Engine Fun come and visit us with a retired fire engine. The children will enjoy an interactive story, a firehouse activity and a fire engine ride around the block.
  
  
  Y1 ‘PLAY IN THE PAST’ INCURSION – Tuesday 11 June

Information was recently sent out to Year 1 parents via Consent2Go. As part of the HASS units this term, the students in Year One will invite Nicola from Play in the Past to visit our school. Play in the Past will bring an enticing selection of vintage homewares to our school for students to learn about, play with and explore. Play in the Past will allow students to compare, sort and order old school items used for communication, entertainment, toys and education. Students are encouraged to dress as children from the past. Students can stay in their costumes for the day. There will be NO Sport on this day (an alternate day will be organised).

Parents will be advised via the Weekly Bulletins or Class SEESAW pages when opportunities do become available. Parents will be able to access the shared roster via the link provided below to add their names for the advertised task(s).
2024 ELC Various Tasks Roster

Mr da Costa is putting together a Chapel music video that will be publicly uploaded to YouTube. Primary students will have the opportunity to dance and perform the actions in the production of this song, titled ‘Path Laid Out’ (viewable here). If your child would like to be involved and you consent for their involvement (see link to consent form below), they will need to arrive at school on Thursday 6 June at 7.45am in the 4/5 open area. Students must wear free dress or some ‘adventurer’ themed clothing (optional) and/or props to help fit with the theme of the song. Students may choose to wear some free dress items such as a jacket over their normal school uniform if that is easier.

ELC Parents: If your child would like to be involved, you must stay for the duration of the filming, remain while they get changed back into school uniform in the Yr 2/3 toilets and escort them back to the ELC.

TIME: 7.45am-8.15am
UNIFORM: Free dress and/or ‘adventurer’ themed clothing. Students can also bring ‘adventurer’ themed props as well (hats, sunnies, jackets, hiking equipment, binoculars, maps etc.). Students must bring their normal school uniform to change back into at the conclusion of this activity at 8.15am.

This term we will be collecting items to donate to the Joondalup Grace Anglican Church as part of their outreach program. To help us with this task we are asking for donations of the following items from the ELC and Primary School community:

• ELC: Cup two-minute noodles only
• YEAR 2: Ring pull tin meals: Heinz big eats or harvest meals
• YEAR 3: Ring pull tins of tuna or salmon or sardines
• YEAR 4: Ring pull chunky tin soups
• YEAR 5: Small and large UHL milk

Collection boxes will be in the ELC, Year 2/3 block and Year 4/5 block for you to place your donations in. Please may we ask that every family contributes to this valuable cause. Our Primary School Global Citizenship motto is ‘Be the change you want to see happen’. We ask you please help us to achieve this! Thank you.

The 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge was launched last week. It will run from 6 May until 6 September and is open to all school children in Western Australia, Kindy to Year 10. Establishing a life-long love of reading is so important in the development of students’ literacy skills. The challenge program is designed to encourage students’ reading enjoyment and in turn, their future outcomes. Register for the challenge here, log the books you read and you’ll be entered into the draw to win weekly prizes and prizes for the school. Did you know that our Old Scholars' Association Little Lions Playgroup is run on-site every Friday during term time? We'd love to see your little cub there this Friday!

Join us from 8.45 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. for lots of fun and games. Little Lions Playgroup is a community-based group run in conjunction with Playgroup WA and caters for children up to school age. Families attending our Kindy and not in session on Fridays are more than welcome to join as well.

St Marks has been provided with the new Australia Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sports. The safety and well-being of our students is paramount, and these guidelines aim to ensure prompt and appropriate action in the event of a concussion.

The mantra for these guidelines is simple: “If in doubt, sit them out”. This means that if there is any suspicion of concussion during school activities and after school activities, it is imperative to remove the student from play and seek appropriate medical attention.

Furthermore, we kindly request that parents notify our school nurse if a child has a sustained concussion outside of school hours. Please find attached the link to the guidelines for review and understanding.
